Posted on: September 20, 2011

Diamond stud earrings are one of the most demanded jewelry item after diamond engagement rings. Here you will find information on the options you have when going to buy diamond stud earrings.

Most women have their ears pierced due to their desire to wear diamond earrings. There are lots of diamond earrings styles but in this article we shall provide detailed information about diamond stud earrings which are the most demandable item in the diamond earrings category.

Material:
In general, most of the studs that are pre set with naturally minded diamonds are made of gold or platinum. The ones that are pre set with CZ stones, are most likely to be made of cheaper alternative materials such as palladium or silver.

The real diamond stud earrings that have naturally minded diamonds, usually made of 18k white gold or 18k yellow gold. Some of them are made of 14k or even 9k but most women will prefer 18k gold. Women that do no have a budget issue will go with Platinum 950 which is most expensive material for jewelry today.

Shape:
The most demandable diamond shape for diamond stud earrings is the traditional round shape diamond. The common size of each diamond for each stud starts at an affordable 1/4 carat each and goes up to an expensive 2 carat each. In the last few years fancy shape diamonds such as Princess cut, Asscher cut and Trillion cut are getting more popular than ever for stud earrings and can be found almost at every jewelry shop.

Setting and Design
:
In addition to the Material and Shape issue, you have to pay attention to the type of setting.

Prong Setting - This is the most classic design.
The most popular setting is the four prong setting. (For those who do not know what prongs are, prongs are the tiny gold teeth that hold the diamond secured in the mounting of the earring.), See the image bellow.

Four Prongs Setting:

Also popular is the six prong setting that has six prongs holding the stone, this type of setting is the most reliable and strong. This type of setting is for the ones who are looking for secured strong and reliable setting or for very expensive diamonds such as 1 carat and up.

Last in the prong setting section is the Three prong setting that is called also as "Martini Setting", in this setting there are only three prongs holding the diamond int the mounting and this type of setting is reliable and strong if set properly. This type of Diamond Martini Earrings is my favorite and i will always go with this type of three prongs setting because less prongs is more appearance for the diamond. See the image bellow.

Bezel Setting - This type of setting comes from diamond solitaire rings and it does not have prongs holding the stone. This kind of bezel set earrings is flat and the diamond is covered equally by a thin wall of gold all around. See the image bellow.

Tension Setting - This type of setting also does not have prongs. In this setting the diamond is set in between two walls. his type of setting is less secured and must be done perfectly. See image bellow.
